4.5 fewer days off sick per year

What Switching from Car to Bicycle Can Achieve

The latest VCÖ factsheet shows that commuters who use active forms of mobility have, on average, 4.5 fewer sick days per year than those who commute by car.

For companies, this is about more than just health. Fewer sick days also mean lower costs.
Companies can already do a great deal to support cycling: secure bicycle parking, showers, company bike schemes or mobility subsidies can create the right conditions at the workplace.

However, whether employees actually use their bikes regularly does not depend on the company premises alone. The route to work is just as important: safe cycling connections, clearly designed intersections and infrastructure that people can rely on every day.
