At the Freistadt-South INKOBA business park, directly off the S-10 motorway, a state-of-the-art fast-charging park with 22 charging points is being built – a project that promotes e-mobility while marking a major step toward renewable energy. The SOLAR SKY PARK, a joint initiative by INNOVAMETALL, eww Anlagentechnik and neoom, enables drivers of electric vehicles to charge with green solar power at exceptionally low rates.
Cheaper when the sun shines
The project makes innovative use of already sealed parking areas by integrating photovoltaic canopies – a logical step in the expansion of renewable energy. What makes this fast-charging park unique is its independence from grid expansion. Most of the electricity is generated directly on-site, through PV systems installed on the parking canopy, the roofs and façades of the nearby GLUATNEST and INNOVAMETALL production hall. The decisive difference: charging tariffs vary according to solar availability. When the sun is shining, customers benefit from lower rates; during periods without sunshine, standard conditions apply. In the future, electricity from local energy communities will also be integrated.
Klaus Pichlbauer, Managing Director of INNOVAMETALL:
"The SOLAR SKY PARK is a milestone in the use of sealed surfaces for sustainable energy generation. We’re proud to realise this innovative solution together with our partners."
Roland Stefan, Project Manager at eww Anlagentechnik:
"Promoting renewable energy and e-mobility is a strategic priority for eww. The SOLAR SKY PARK demonstrates how innovative solutions can contribute to the energy transition and sustainable mobility."
Stefan Pilgerstorfer, Project Manager at neoom:
"The large-scale neoom storage system perfectly complements the SOLAR SKY PARK by balancing load peaks. This ensures that multiple vehicles can charge simultaneously without straining the grid. Such integrated solutions pave the way for a truly sustainable energy future.“
Open to everyone
The public charging park at Freistadt-South is accessible to all users and supports common charging cards such as Smatrics and ÖAMTC at standard rates. Additionally, the safetydock system allows charging with attractive solar-based tariffs. Dynamic pricing information is displayed in real time on an information board at the site.
With the SOLAR SKY PARK, INNOVAMETALL, eww Anlagentechnik and neoom are setting a benchmark for sustainable e-mobility and renewable energy. This project not only strengthens the local energy supply but also contributes to building a climate-friendly, future-oriented mobility infrastructure.
