Efficient energy management for hot water

In a new residential complex in Ottnang am Hausruck, the sybkon energy balconies produce the electricity for the apartments’ hot water supply. This reduces operating costs.

Residential complex Ottnang, Kirchenstr. (Upper Austria)

  • New build, client: WSO, 2023/2024
  • sybkon energy balconies
  • 29 balconies + 9 terraces, tie-rod system
  • Side walls in sheet metal, glass, or PV, PV balcony roof with wooden soffit
  • PV modules on the roof, main entrance portal, staircase fire-protection portals, underground garage door, stair railings made of oiled sheet steel, waste collection area, bicycle parking facilities, garden shed, safetydock energy management (with 3 heating rods, 24 kW)

Challenge

The project placed high demands on flexibility and technical solutions. To meet these, an air-source heat pump was installed on the roof, requiring extensive supply from PV systems. At the same time, energy supply had to be managed efficiently, alternative PV modules adapted due to delivery shortages, and the balconies installed with the help of a mobile crane.

Solution

The residential complex now features 29 balconies and 9 terraces, with sybkon energy balconies providing a sustainable share of the electricity supply. Each balcony is designed with PV roofs and wooden soffits, plus side walls in sheet metal, glass, or PV – delivering a distinctive appearance that meets architectural visions.

An additional rooftop PV system further supports self-sufficient hot water generation. With safetydock, our integrated energy management system, the energy supply is intelligently controlled, while three heating rods provide additional hot water support.

Result

The Ottnang residential complex, with 38 subsidized rental apartments, combines modern design with sustainable energy supply. The PV modules provide energy for hot water generation via heating rods in buffer storage as well as for on-site consumption. This project demonstrates how technical challenges can be overcome with innovative approaches.

The outcome: high living comfort powered by renewable energy – generated directly on-site and provided to residents.
