Covering existing parking areas with photovoltaics doesn’t just provide shade and weather protection – it also generates clean energy without using extra land. The Province of Upper Austria is now supporting this sustainable dual use with grants of up to €200,000.

Whether it’s grocery shopping, commuting to work, or visiting public offices – parking under a solar canopy offers genuine benefits. PV structures provide shade in summer, protection from snow and ice in winter, and keep vehicles dry throughout the year – a clear advantage for customers, employees, and visitors. At the same time, they generate clean energy right where it’s needed – without using any extra land.
Existing parking lots are ideal for this: flat, accessible, and already connected to local energy demand. A photovoltaic canopy transforms these areas both functionally and environmentally – and directly supports the energy transition. Still, many of these opportunities remain unused, often because of financial or organizational hurdles.
Now, the funding program from the Province of Upper Austria – together with INNOVAMETALL’s modular SOLAR SKY PARK system – removes those barriers, making PV canopies an easy and economically sound investment.
Funding program overview
The Province of Upper Austria supports photovoltaic canopies for at least 10 parking spaces on publicly accessible, existing parking areas (as of May 2025, according to https://land-oberoesterreich.gv.at)
- Up to 30% subsidy on investment costs
- Maximum of €200,000 per project
- Specifically targeted at municipalities, companies, associations, and religious institutions
- Eligible only for existing parking areas with public access
- Application: online submission with project description, cost plan, and proof of use
(EU exceptions apply, e.g. for fisheries and primary agricultural production.)
